Items table

Let’s start with the Items table. Pushing the Items button display the Items form:

Each Item must have a name, a selling price and a barcode; it should also have a item code of your own choosing and a current stock level – although if you are not interested in maintaining a watch on the stock level you can ignore the current stock value as it grows more negative with each sale. The required values are indicated on the form by the presence of an * by the entry’s label. You will learn later about importing item lists from a spreadsheet or text file.

If items are bought by the case then the number of items per case and a case barcode number can be included and this will make the process of adding to stock easier. If you choose to sell items by the case then a case selling price should be included.

Other entries on the form are optional and if provided are for information only – they do not take part in dPos calculations. However, if you would like to be notified when the stock level of an item falls to a certain value you can enter the required level in the Reorder level box and the dPos title bar will indicate when there are items at or below their reorder level.

To add a new item just push the New button and enter the data. When you are satisfied, push the Update button to ensure that the database is updated.

To view different items push the First, Previous, Next or Last buttons – or you can search for an item by entering something in the Find box and pressing the enter key.

To change the item’s data just make the changes on the form, then push the Update button. To remove the item from the database just push the Remove button. Should you need to print barcode labels to apply to your items, or print items details, you can do that from this screen – but we will return to those matters later.

Pushing the Close button returns you to the Control Centre.

You can view a list of your items by pushing the list button on the Items form which causes the Items List to be displayed. The list order may be may be changed by clicking on the column header of any column. Item details may be edited on the list, or an item deleted by selecting the indicator tab at the left of the row (as shown below) and pushing the delete button.
