System Requirements

dPos requires a Windows XP (SP2) or Vista with the .NET Framework version 2.0 or later. If the .NET Framework is not already installed on the computer on which dPos is being installed, then the installer will install the Framework from the CD, or download it from the dLSoft web site. dPos also uses a database system, and this will also be downloaded or installed. Because of these requirement a first complete installation of dPos direct from the download site may require downloads of up to 60 MB – which can take some time on a slow internet connection.

At installation dPos requires only 70 MB of hard disk space (less if the .NET Framework is already installed). However, with use the size of the database will grow and you should allow for a database size that could reach 100 MB.

While it is possible to use the dPos system without any special accessories, to get the best from the system we recommend at least the following:

i) A barcode scanner that connects to your computer by USB. (The connection of serial port scanners via USB converters is NOT supported.)

ii) A receipt printer – typically this would be a small thermal printer that prints on paper rolls of 3 – 5 inches wide.

If you will be printing your own barcode labels to label the products, then a page printer (such as a low-cost laser printer for printing to sheets of labels) or a high resolution (300 dpi or better) label printer with a Windows driver would be required.

dPos will work very well with a touch screen monitor, and these are often more convenient to use at the point of sale than a mouse. The system has been designed to look best on an 800*600 or 1024*768 or 1280*1024 pixesl at 96 dpi. The use of the Windows Large fonts or 120 dpi settings is not recommended. A keyboard will always be required, although for the majority of purposes (such as changing the quantity of an item scanned, or entering cash tendered) a numeric keypad could be used.
