Really Simple Barcodes ... for Windows > Using Really Simple Barcodes

Creating the barcode

When Really Simple Barcode starts it displays a barcode in the centre of its window – using the parameters previously saved or the built-in defaults.

Really Simple Barcodes can operate in several “modes”. The mode is always displayed in the title bar along with the current barcode type.

By default it starts in Picture mode – in which it generates pictures of barcodes.

The type of barcode may be changed by selecting Barcode Properties from the Edit menu and using the Barcode properties dialog to select the required barcode type from the drop-down list of types available:

This dialog also permits all other aspects of the barcode to be specified.

Really Simple Barcodes can also operate in Font mode – in which the barcodes are produced as a series of text characters which appear as a barcode when displayed in one of the UN fonts installed with the product.

Again the barcode properties may be by selecting Barcode Properties from the Edit menu and using the Barcode properties dialog to select the required barcode type from the drop-down list of types available:

The height of the barcode (which is specified in points – just like any other font) may be selected by pushing the Change font button and selecting from the drop-down list of font heights, and the width of the barcode may be selected by choosing the required barcode font.

For “normal” (ie. Non-retail) barcodes the font selected should be one of

UNAW, UNBW, UNCW, UNDW, UNEW

When creating barcodes for retail packaging (EAN/UCC-13, EAN/UCC-8, UPC-A, UPC-E, ISBN, ISBN-13, etc) then UNXW or UNYW provide the tall thin bars required.

For Clocked barcodes (Postnet, Planet, RM4SCC and Japan Post) the UNFW barcode should be used.
