DLSoft Application Note 04021 Barcodes printed on the right hand side of landscape pages have the text mis-aligned under the barcode. Applies to all versions of dLabel-2k and label printing module of dBarcode-2k running on Windows 9x. Cause Windows 9x has a limitation of 16 bits for the coordinates on a page (while Windows NT/2000/XP allows 32 bits). A consequence of this is that when the high resolution metafile image of a barcode containing text is displayed more than about 22 cms (9 inches) from the lefthand side of the page the image is not displayed correctly - the text under the image becomes displaced. Resolution The best solution is to use a 32 bit version of Windows (NT/2000/XP) or print on portrait pages. If this is not practical an alternative for Win 9x users is to use a lower resolution image of the barcode. A DLL which produces lower resolution images may be downloaded from ftp://ftp.dlsoft.com/pub/support/specials/dlsbar33.dll To install the replacement DLL proceed as follows: 1. Locate the installed version of DLSBAR33.DLL. This will be in either the programs installation directory or in the Windows\System directory (depending on the type of installation performed). 2. Rename this DLL to DLSBAR33.ORG 3. Copy the DLSBAR33.DLL downloaded from our support site to the directory in which DLSBAR33.ORG now resides. 4. Check that dLabel-2k or dBarcode-2k prints the barcodes required, and that the printed barcodes scan correctly. Note that the lower resolution of the images produced by this "special" DLL are not of the same high quality as those of the original DLL. If barcodes with a small minimum bar width (X unit < 12 mils) are being created then the user to check carefully to ensure that the printed barcodes scan correctly. dLSoft April 2002
