DLSoft Application Note 08011 Code 39 Barcode Font producing non-scannable barcodes in Word 2000 Problem Typing barcode data enclosed in * symbols (one set of start/stop characters for Code 39) and then changing the barcode font to a dLSoft Barcode Font for Windows Code 39 font produces a barcode which does not scan. Cause By default the Word 2000 installation enables some auto-correct actions, one of which is the a word enclosed in * symbols is automatically reformatted as Bold without the * symbols. Thus the start/stop bars for the Code 39 barcode are removed. Resolution 1. From Word's Tools menu select Auto-correct 2. Choose the "Auto-Format as you type" Tab in the displayed dialog 3. Uncheck the "*Bold* and _Italic_ with real formatting" check box. 4. Push the OK button.
